Bridge Eight Press to publish Laura Farmer’s collection of stories and a novella
Bridge Eight Press is excited to announce that we’ve acquired Direct Connection by Laura Farmer and will be publishing the story collection in the spring of 2024.
Following her personal journey as a queer woman, Laura Farmer has divided Direct Connection into two parts: NOW, which features present-day stories told in a postmodern style with queer characters at the center; and THEN, featuring stories set in the late 80s/early 90s that are told in a more “traditional” expansive style, with queer characters primarily serving in smaller, supportive roles. Connected through their setting in a fictionalized version of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Direct Connection is a love letter of sorts to the Hawkeye State, where Laura Farmer has built a wonderful life.
Laura Farmer’s fiction has appeared in the Antioch Review, Camas, The Iowa Review, North American Review, and other journals. Her novel Catch and Release is forthcoming from North Dakota State University Press. She directs the Dungy Writing Studio at Cornell College and is also a longtime correspondent for The Gazette in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
If you’re interested in receiving an advanced reading copy of Direct Connection, send an email to editor@bridgeeight.com and include your name, organization, and how you intend to promote the book.
